Stir-fried Sesame Asparagus


Sesame seeds have a high fat content which provides a rich, nutty oil.  The fragrance added to this dish makes for a great compliment to light or creamy main dish.


2 tbsp soy sauce

2 tsp sugar

2 tbsp sesame oil

2 garlic cloves, chopped

2 lbs asparagus, ends trimmed, cut on diagonal into 2 inch pieces

4 tsp sesame seeds


Stir soy sauce and sugar in small bowl until sugar dissolves.  Heat oil in heavy large skillet over medium-high heat.  Add garlic and stir 15 seconds.

Add Asparagus and stir-fry until crisp-tender, about 4 minutes.  Add soy mixture and toss until asparagus is coated, about 1 minute longer.  Season to taste with salt and pepper.  Transfer to bowl; sprinkle with sesame seeds and serve.

Makes 4 to 6 servings and pairs perfectly with a crisp white wine
